Dementia Workforce Paid Research Opportunity
We are looking to invite direct care workers assisting people living with dementia to participate in a paid research study organized by Dr. Amanda Leggett from The Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University.
What is the goal of this research study?: Our goal is to better understand the caregiving styles/approaches that direct care workers utilize in managing care for individuals living with dementia, and how their caregiving style may be associated with key outcomes (e.g., workplace stress).
How do I participate?: In part 1, we’re asking that participants finish one online survey that will take around 30-minutes. In part 2, there are three optional components:
- A 30-minute in-depth interview on your caregiving style.
- Providing a small hair sample for cortisol assessment (a stress hormone).
- Collecting a brief daily diary on daily caregiving activities and wearing a smart watch for one week to collect data on activity, sleep, and daily stress.
How much will I earn?: You will receive $40 for the original survey (part 1) in the form of a gift card sent to your email. If you choose to participate in part 2, you will receive $50 for the in-depth interview, $20 for the hair sample, and $10 per day (up to 7 days; up to $70) for wearing the smart watch and keeping a daily diary.
Do I qualify?: In order to qualify for part 1 our study you must be:
- 18 years of age or older.
- English speaking.
- Currently employed as a direct care worker in a Skilled Nursing Facility, Assisted Living Facility, or Home Care Agency.
- Provide hands on care (e.g., assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, activities) for individuals with dementia, to some extent.
