How to Talk About Attending the Conference

We know that direct care workers have busy schedules, and making time to attend a three-day event often means working with employers to adjust shifts, arranging respite care for families, or asking for flexibility from those you support. To make these conversations easier, we’ve prepared language you can use to share the importance of this opportunity and how it benefits everyone involved.

See below:

“Michigan’s statewide Direct Care Worker Conference will bring together more than 500 DCWs for three days of learning, skill-building, and connection. With over 30 presenters and numerous breakout sessions focused on workforce development, caregiving best practices, wellness, and leadership, the conference is designed not only to support my professional growth but also to improve the care I provide every day.

By attending, I’ll gain new strategies, tools, and insights that directly benefit the people I serve, leading to stronger health outcomes and more person-centered care. The conference will also keep me informed about future training and development opportunities, helping me stay engaged in continuous learning. More than just an event, this gathering is part of a larger movement to reshape Michigan’s approach to quality care, and by participating, I’ll be better prepared to contribute to that vision.”

Feel free to copy, paste, or adapt this language when talking with employers, colleagues, families, or those you support. This is meant to help you advocate for your time and highlight the shared benefits of your attendance.
