About Us

Our Goals:

  • Build a Skilled Workforce: We’re compiling a comprehensive database of
trained DCWs across Michigan, ready to support families and individuals who
    depend on their care.
  • Forge Strategic Partnerships: Through partnerships with agencies across the
state, we’re creating a powerful coalition to enhance support for a high-quality
    direct care workforce.
  • Design and Scale Training Programs: We’re developing an advanced
curriculum and a scalable training model to reach DCWs statewide, preparing
    them to deliver exceptional care.
  • Enhance Efficiency and Outcomes: By coordinating efforts and fostering
collaborative strategies, we’re increasing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and better outcomes for all stakeholders.

Our Background:

Clare Luz and Bethany Duyser, IMPART Alliance Executive and Assistant Director respectively. The IMPART Alliance initiative, led by Michigan State University, is tackling a crisis that affects us all. The need for affordable, high-quality in-home support has never been more urgent in Michigan. Families across the state rely on skilled, professional Direct Care Workers (DCWs) to help their loved ones live safely and comfortably at home. Yet, a critical shortage of trained DCWs is rapidly widening the gap.

Shannon Harkins-Padgitt and Beth Eisch

Born from this pressing need, the IMPART Alliance is on a mission to reshape Michigan’s direct care landscape. We know that a stable, well-trained workforce leads to better outcomes — reducing falls, lowering emergency room visits, and improving satisfaction for both workers and those they care for. With no federal training standards in place, we’re helping establish best practices, professional training, and a coordinated workforce development plan that Michigan can count on.
